BAGUIO CITY – Okinawa Golf Team shot a rather “low” 98 points and assumed lead of the Seniors Fil A in the 70th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament
Roger Telan and Tom Dailey top scored for the Japan based team with 26 points, even As Bernard Chang and Efren Leonardo chipped in 25 and 21 points, respectively to count for Okinawa which is six uop on second day leader Hotel Bahia Subic which managed 88 points for a 297 total.
Bahia got 26 from Tony Olives, 25 from Danny Morales, 22 from Raoul Jorge and 15 from Joey Napkil to at least remain at a striking distance with a day to play.
Mamala Bay shot a 93 to move up to third spot after spending the second day tied at fourth spot. That gives Mamala 291 points and six shot lead on fourth placer Sandigan Golfers.
Camp John Hay Golf Club remains hot and is now expected to cruise to the top podium after firting a flight best 89 for a 312 total and 39 point lead in Seniors Am A.
Benny Pul-oc and Villamor Bumanglag and Hur Yun all submitted similar 23 points, while Shean Bedi added 20 to score for the co-host squad.
Alpha Phi Omega Golfers Club – Leadership fired 76 points and 273 total to a three point advantage on B & Y Utopia which made 73 and 270 and is just one up on Magiting 83.
Quickflo Forwarders Inc. shot 67 for a three day total of 257 and increase its lead to 12 in Seniors Am B.
Diosdado Bautista had 18, Rodolfo Kalinga made 17 and Jose Antonio Madella and Mel Ferrer chipped in a pair of 16s to count for the team.
Forest Hills Golf and Country Club may have lost some steam but still pulled a 64 and 245 total for a seven point advantage on A1/MGC which fired 66 points and 238 total.
BIBAK New York lost some ground and confounded with a two point penalty to come home with 79 points and 262 total for just a measly one point on EK Amigos which made 83 and 261 points. The two are gearing for a finals showdown with Yokohama Eagles a distant third with 237 after an 89.
Chan Yeong Gim of Riviera Golf is stealing the thunder from the more heralded players like Eddie Bagtas in the seniors competition when he made the tournament best of six under 63 for 42 points for a a two day total of 72, six up on Manila Southwoods Thirdy Escano.
On Sunday, Dec. 8, Luisita Golf and Country Club return to action in the hope to increase their lead which now stands at 18 after two rounds.
The team is hungrier this team after Megafiber sneaked past them last year for the crown. Southwoods is 18 down, while John Hay is at 220 and Megafiber is at 216.
