LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap announced that the public works department allotted some P25 million in next year’s annual budget for the repair and improvement of the Wangal Sports Complex.

Yap, who chairs the House Committee on appropriations, said that the proposed repair and improvement that has been programmed for the Wangal Sports Complex is the repair of the existing bleachers, the put up of facilities that will guarantee the conduct of indoor games and the improvement of the sports equipment inside the facility.

He added that one of the priority projects that his office intends to implement in the province is the possible improvement of its existing sports facilities to allow Benguet to host future prestigious regional, national and international sports competitions that will place the province in the map as one of the potential venues of sports activities.

On January 29, 2020, Congressman Yap, who was accorded a welcome party by the provincial  government, committed to source out available funds from concerned government agencies to improve the ‘Wangal Sports Complex to help in boosting the province’s chances of hosting numerous sports competitions organized by regional, national and international sports organizations.

Aside from working out the repair and improvement of the Wangal gymnasium, the lawmaker also assured that he will try to work out the sourcing of funds for the improvement of the existing track oval to confirm with existing standards that will help in improving the sports facilities that will ensure the development of potential athletes.

In 2019, Baguio City and Benguet attempted to host the conduct of the annual Palarong Pambansa where its sports facilities was assessed by the experts as exemplary but the said local government lost to Ilocos Sur in the conduct of the bidding for the aforesaid hosting.

The Benguet caretaker congressman asserted that part of the development of potential athletes that could bring honor and provide to the province and the region as a whole is the improvement of existing sports facilities where their trainings are conducted so that they will be able to climatize themselves to standard sports venues where competitions are being done.

The provincial government previously identified huge portion of its property in Wangal where the proposed sports complex will be built on a staggered basis because of inadequate funds, thus, the put up of the Wangal Sports Complex was done in phases through multi-year appropriations from available local funds.

He assured provincial officials and officers and members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Benguet chapter that he will continue to exert efforts to source out whatever available public and private resources that will be used in the implementation of the priority development projects and enhance the delivery of basic services to the people.

Yap emphasized that he cannot promise that all the requests for support being submitted to his office will be favorably acted upon by the concerned government agencies where the same will be referred but what is important is some of the same will be acted upon and priotized for future support because of the enormous requests lodged with the said agencies.
