CONNER, Apayao – A total of PhP396, 000 was distributed to 44 households affected by Typhoon Egay which destroyed many homes and vegetation in the province.
Those with damaged houses in Conner received PhP9,000 each on November 8, 2023, at PADM Gymnasium in Caglayan, while the Cordillera office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development office of Conner distributed emergency cash transfer (ECT) financial assistance.
ECT is a strategy to close the gaps between early recovery and the immediate humanitarian response provided by the government when disasters strike. The recipients of this unconditional financial transfer were those with partially or completely destroyed homes.
One requirement of the aid is that the local markets in disaster-hit areas should already be open and able to supply the affected population with goods they need. This comes with the regular supplies of non-food items provided by the government and humanitarian partners.
ECT is a flexible financial award that can be utilized by the recipient for any reason to support daily expenses related to repairs and house rehabilitation. According to DSWD Memorandum Circular 17, series of 2021, the relief aid is equal to the current Regional Daily Wage Rate of 75% times 30 days. By PIO Apayao
