TINGLAYAN, Kalinga – More than P63.2 million worth of marijuana plants and seeds were destroyed by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents during a recent 3-day marijuana eradication operation at Barangay Loccong, here.
Based on reports from the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), there were some 263,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants distributed in a 25,000-square meter plantation area, including 87,000 grams of marijuana stalks and dried leaves and 5,050 grams of marijuana seeds that were discovered from a make shift hut, were destroyed during the implementation of the Oplan Binuryan and the barangay drug clearing operation of the government.
Police authorities claimed that there were no untoward incident that transpired during the marijuana eradication operation but there was no marijuana cultivator that was arrested in the plantation site.
The operating troops were composed of personnel of the PNP, PDEA, Philippine Army, and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Region 2.
Most of the uprooted marijuana plants, the discovered marijuana stalks and dried leaves and seeds were burned on site by the government forces while a percentage of the same was brought to the police headquarters for evidentiary purposes.
