LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Sports enthusiasts and spectators surely enjoyed an action-filled afternoon last April 28, with the presentation of Paboksing ed Gulpo at the Capitol Beach Front.
Thirty amateur boxers with ages ranging 15-28 years old from the different municipalities of Pangasinan showcased their potentials in the 8th Governor Amado Espino Cup boxing event. Weigh in started at 7 o’clock in the morning to determine each fighter’s weight category while the main event commenced at one in the afternoon.
Provincial Sports Consultant Modesto Operania pointed out that local sporting events draw in sports executives from Manila, and Baguio-based universities and colleges to scout talents. He also noted that such tournaments help hone homegrown players as varsity players once recruited by elite schools to join the list of athletes who are already making big waves in the sports industry.
The 15-bout tournament was one of the highlights of the Pistay Dayat celebration, an addition to the annual celebration under the administration of former Pangasinan governor and now 5th district Representative Amado T. Espino, Jr.
Winners of each fight brought home with medals and cash incentives from the provincial government.
