City officials encouraged the city’s private sector to build parking structures on their private properties to help in providing additional parking spaces for motor vehicles in the different parts of the city.
In a resolution, local legislators stated there are different vacant lots owned by private individuals in the various parts of the city which are idle that are ideal for the put up of parking structures or serve as parking areas if the owners will for such purpose.
Earlier, the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) identified parking as one of the major needs of the city government following the numerous complaints raised by the public on the monstrous traffic congestions in almost all corners of the city.
However, the council admitted that the city has limited resources in contracting the construction of multi-level parking buildings thus it is encouraging the private sector to be actively involved by venturing in the put up of pay parking structures that can contribute in significantly increasing the availability of parking spaces for the motorists.
Further, the body stipulated that premier tourist destinations such as, but not limited to, Burnham Park, Botanical Garden, Wright Park and Mines View Park have limited parking areas that is why there is always traffic congestion in these areas, especially during weekends when there is an influx of motorists wanting to visit the said places, thus, the need for the put up of parking structures in these sites to help ease the volume of traffic for the convenience of both the residents and tourists alike.
One of the major thrusts of the city government is the construction of multi-level parking structures in some public and private properties within the central business district area to provide additional parking spaces for motorists that regularly ply the various city roads end route to their desired destinations inside and outside the city.
