LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The province of Pangasinan has lined up programs and activities for the celebration of the 28th National Statistics Month (NSM) in October.
Governor Amado I. Espino, III via Executive Order No. 0099-2017 created the provincial steering committee for this year’s NSM provincial celebration with 6th district Board Member Noel Bince as the over-all chairperson.
Themed “Figures for the Future: Realizing AmBisyon Nation 2040 through Statistics” (Estadistika para sa Hinaharap: Ambag sa Pagtupad ng AmBisyon Nation 2040), the provincial celebration started as early as August where city and municipal local government units in Pangasinan are enjoined to start information and education campaign for the forthcoming celebration.
“NSM month is aimed at promoting nationwide awareness and appreciation of the value and importance of statistics to the different sectors of society, and eliciting the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country,” Gov. Espino stated in his executive order.
In a coordinating conference held on September 13, members of the NSM provincial steering committee presented the NSM activities as well as the roles and responsibilities of the collaborating provincial government – offices and agencies.
The opening ceremony for the NSM celebration is scheduled on Oct. 2 during the regular flag-raising ceremony of the provincial government.
Highlight events of the provincial NSM celebration include: Statistical exhibit (Oct 2-31); Coastal Resource Education Seminar (Oct 3-4, 12, 24-25); Ligtas at Aktibong Pamayanan symposium (1st week of October); Anti-illegal Recruitment seminar (Oct 4); Collapse Structure Search and Rescue training-workshop (2nd week of Oct); Contingency Plan Formulation workshop (3rd week of October); Socio-Economic Profile Preparation seminar-writeshop (Oct 17); Productivity training for Business Establishments (Oct 20); Jobs Fair (Oct 26); DRRM training for Media Practitioners (4th week of Oct); and Indigenous Early Warning System dissemination for flood-prone municipalities (Oct 31).
Highly-contested provincial NSM contests for secondary and tertiary students include: jingle singing (Oct 3 at the PESO conference room); poster-slogan making (Malong building conference room), stat quiz (Pangasinan Training and Development Center), oratorical contest (PESO conference room), and essay writing (Palaris building conference room) on Oct 12.
Presidential Proclamation No. 647 declares October as the NSM month.
