LINGAYEN, Pangasinan September 09 – Pangasinan takes pride as it is once again nominated for the annual national quality corn achievers award under provincial category pegged to recognize the performance of farmers in the corn industry.
“Ito ay isa na namang importanteng okasyon sa ating probinsya kung tayo ay papalarin na manalo sa National Corn Achievers Awards ngayong taon.”
This was highlighted by Nestor Batalla, Office of the Agriculturist (OPAG) staff, in his remarks during the evaluation at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) restaurant on September 6 on the search for the National Quality Corn Achievers’ Award.
Evaluators from DA spearheaded by the Chairman of the National Evaluation Team and Project Evaluation Officer IV, Bureau of Agricultural Research Apolonia Mendoza commended the breakthrough of the corn industry in the province of Pangasinan. “Let us not also forget that we should prioritize the rice production,” Mendoza added in her speech as she praised the agricultural production and development of Pangasinan.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee Chairman in Agriculture Hon. Liberato Z. Villegas urged the farmers to maintain the provincial corn production development program of Pangasinan.
This program aims to make the province as one of the major producers of high-grade yellow corn to support the emerging livestock in Pangasinan and to support the government’s thrust for food security and self-sufficiency with readily available alternative staple food for the community.
Furthermore, Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya stressed the accomplishments and programs of the provincial government to sustain the corn program during the presentation of records of the provincial corn program as evaluated by the DA representatives.
The awarding ceremony of National Corn Achievers Awards 2017 is set on September 28 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay, Metro Manila.
It can be recalled that the province bagged the National Corn Achiever Award for the 3rd time last year in Koronadal, South Cotabato and recently received its 4th Rice Achiever Award at the PICC on May 23. Pangasinan has been also elevated as Hall of Famer in 2015 after it bagged the rice production awards for three consecutive years – 2012, 2013 and 2014.
