BAGUIO CITY – The Regional Development Council Cordillera Administrative Region (RDC-CAR), during its 2024 1st Quarter Meeting, recognized and honored exceptional volunteers who have made significant contributions to their communities. RDC-CAR Chairperson, Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr together with Presidential Assistant for Northern Luzon ASec. Ana Carmela V. Remegio, RDC Co-chairperson Edna C. Tabanda, and RDC Vice-chairperson and NEDA-CAR Regional Director Susan A. Sumbeling awarded the plaque of recognition to the Most Outstanding Volunteers in CAR for 2023.
On behalf of Clienteast Van B. Totanes, awardee of the Most Outstanding Volunteer–Youth Category, Alexander B. Gorento, his representative, received the award in acknowledgment of his remarkable efforts in inspiring young people to become active and productive members of society.
Through his initiatives in organizing youth development programs and fundraising activities, Totanes has effectively raised awareness among the youth about current community concerns and issues.
Under the adult category, Dr. Maria C. Aplaten was recognized for her unwavering commitment to advancing the welfare of indigenous peoples. Aplaten’s tireless efforts in organizing activities aimed at improving the lives of indigenous communities have made a significant impact in promoting inclusivity and cultural preservation.
For the organization – non-profit category, LINKS – Building Bridges for Children, Inc. was celebrated for their innovative initiative to transform spaces into libraries for children. By fostering a genuine love for reading and advocating for increased community awareness of the importance of literacy, LINKS has made substantial contributions toward enhancing educational opportunities for children in underserved communities.
These awardees were commended for their exemplary achievements in empowering communities and promoting volunteerism as a fundamental component of nation-building. Their dedication serve as an inspiration to others, highlighting the transformative power of collective action in creating positive change in the society
The Search for Outstanding Volunteers is conducted annually by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency in partnership with NEDA Regional Offices. The Search aims to recognize outstanding Filipino volunteers and volunteer organizations for their exemplary performance and achievements in empowering communities and promoting volunteerism as a way of life, contributory to nation-building.
