TABUK CITY, Kalinga—The City Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Office (CCEDO), launched the celebration of the Global Money Week during today’s flag raising ceremony.
Global Money Week is an annual global awareness-raising campaign on the importance of ensuring that young people are financially aware, and are acquiring the behaviors necessary to make sound financial decisions to achieve financial well-being and resilience.
According to City Cooperatives Officer Karen Uera, this is the third time that the city government joins the celebration with the theme ‘’Protect your money, secure your future’’ to highlight the importance of responsible financial management, financial education, cyber security and entrepreneurship.
“The CCEDO, in partnership with the Tabuk Multipurpose Cooperative (TAMPCO) and Treasure Link Cooperative, will be conducting a financial literacy orientation with brief introduction on cooperativism, entrepreneurship and financial management among high school students in selected schools in the City,” she said.
Bulo National High School is scheduled on April 2 for this financial literacy orientation, followed by the Naneng National High School (NHS) on April 3, Calaccad NHS on April 4 and Eastern Kalinga NHS on April 5.
Cooperatives Development Specialist Ana Liza Malapit said the orientation for secondary students will make the young generation understand the importance of saving money for their future, and to address financial difficulties with the power of strategic savings and investment initiatives.
Acting Mayor Atty. Dick Bal-o advised the students to start saving money and utilize it to join cooperatives. According to him, investing in cooperatives may be very beneficial, particularly in trying times. By Darwin S. Serion
