BONTOC, Mountain Province – The Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) continues to level up the rescue skills of responders and community volunteers for them to be prepared in any unavoidable incidents.
This is through the conduct of a three-day Basic Rope Access Training which was participated in by members of the Bontoc Emergency Response Team (BERT) and local tourist guides on March 15-17, 2023.
In his opening message, Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., expressed his gratitude to the participants for their interest to undergo another life skills challenge conducted by the Bontoc LGU. He further sought the cooperation and active participation of everyone for the success of this training.
“Sharing learned knowledge and skills and getting prepared for any eventualities are among our goals for our Ili ay Kalalaychan”, the mayor added.
The topics discussed include a Review of the Principles of Emergency Care, Review of Basic First Aid skills, Care and management of Ropes and their accessories, Basic knot tying, Ascending and descending rope techniques, and Rope rescue using a natural anchoring system.
The outdoor venue for the skills demonstration and return demonstration on ascending and descending rope techniques, and rope rescue using a natural anchoring system as at Mt. Tufay in Barangay Bontoc Ili.
During the closing ceremonies, Atty. Seichi Ofo-ob who is the BERT Focal Person challenged the participants to commit themselves to render their knowledge and skills come to any uneventful situation that may arise in our community. He reiterated the importance of community responders as first responders in emergencies.
Local Youth Development Officer Designate, Ross Kiat-ong seconded the pronouncement of Atty. Ofo-ob. Likewise, he encouraged the completers to actively participate and support the government’s programs, projects, and activities, especially on youth matters.
The trainers and facilitators are members of the Bontoc ERT, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson of Barangays Poblacion and Samoki, Samoki Mountain Rescue Team, LYDO, and MDRRM Office personnel. By Mei Shalom Ayan
