SABANGAN, Mountain Province – Women’s Day is celebrated globally on the 8th of March every year with a theme, “We Make Change Work For Women” in honour of their remarkable contribution to our society. This special day is dedicated to women around the world commemorating their great success across all spheres of life as well as shaping the future.
This day is intended for the people to express love and gratitude towards women’s contribution to our lives and to the society. The fact that all the great people of the world are born from the womb of a woman and it is a woman from whom those great people have taken their initial teachings.
Women in the Local Government Unit of Sabangan joyfully celebrated this especial day hiking till the peak of Mount Oona, one of the tourist spots in the Municipality, and having team building activities in Mount Batakang. We trekked the elevated mountain of Barangay Data, struggled a bit in the steep part of the mountain, yet, we overcome the hardships just to be on the top. We are composed of women employees from 20 years old to 59 years old.
I see tired friends with their foreheads frowning and even nearly gave up halfway to the topmost of the mountain, but when we all reached the peak, I see brightened faces with precious smiles with their cameras on taking “selfies” and even having facebook live for their friends and family members to see.
Their actions and facial expressions are very unlike when we are in the working area because I can see how they were revitalized and refreshed during and after the said activity. It is very inspiring seeing grins to their faces (it’s like they just went out of jail) knowing that they are doing their best to render quality service to our valued clients and/or kakailyans. I believe most women with me during the hike have personal problems, but they manage to relax and feel as if they were kids playing in the rain. As Oprah Winfrey said: “Think like a queen, a queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.”
