TABUK CITY, Kalinga. – Indigent senior citizens will receive their first semester social pension for this year from March 22-26, 2021 sponsored by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and announced by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA).
In an interview with Espirita Gamatero, she said that 4,704 senior citizens from the city are set to claim P3,000.00 each covering a six month-period, from January-June 2021.
Unclaimed social pensions from last year will also be released, she said.
Gamatero reminded social pensioners to use the amount to buy food, medicines and other necessary items for the nourishment of their body.
The social pension, she said, will be distributed by representatives from the regional office of DSWD to be assisted by personnel of OSCA and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). The distribution will be held in the barangay halls of each barangays.
Claimants are reminded to bring photocopy of their senior citizen ID, and to observe health and safety protocols during the pay-out.
Additionally, needy senior citizens who are not yet covered by the program may still apply at the OSCA. The following documents need to be presented such as indigency certificate and a valid ID and they have to undergo an interview as basis of determining their eligibility to the program.
Social Pension is a government assistance program providing monthly stipend amounting to P500.00 to poor senior citizens. The program is the effort of the government to promote active ageing through social protection and support for the rights and welfare of senior citizens and their empowerment.
