The Social Security System (SSS) La Union signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Local Government (LGU) of the municipality of Luna, La Union on September 14, 2022 and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 1 on September 20, 2022 to provide social security coverage to 180 Job Order and Contract of Service workers of the two government offices.
Under the agreement, job order and contract of service workers who are not covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) due to their employment status shall be registered as Self-Employed Members of the SSS. Their respective agencies will remit their monthly contributions to SSS through a salary deduction scheme under the KaltaSSS-Collect Program.
Self-employed members are entitled to receive Social Security benefits such as Sickness, Maternity, Disability, Retirement, Death, and Funeral. They may also avail of the various SSS loan privileges such as Salary, Calamity, and Educational Assistance. Self-Employed members may also receive additional benefit from Employees’ Compensation (EC) for contingencies like Sickness, Funeral, and Death arising from work-related incidents. Qualifying conditions for these benefits and loan privileges shall apply.
