TABUK CITY, Kalinga – At least 34 elderly adults from Barangay Balong were given their second semester social pension today by the city government.
According to Marydhel Lattot of the Special Concerns Coordinating Office, social pensions are only for poor senior citizens who do not have a regular source of income and do not include individuals who get a government pension or those who have a permanent employment with a monthly pay or honorarium.
This social pension aims to supplement senior people’ basic requirements such as food and medicine, particularly for those who are disabled or bedridden. Each social pensioner received P3,000.00 for the last six months of the year.
As a preventative measure against the Covid-19 virus, health and safety measures were observed during the pay-out.
According to Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero, monies were set aside for destitute social seniors who were sponsored by the city government to help them with emergency necessities such as medicines and food. By Darwin S. Serion
