BAGUIO CITY – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – CAR will sign a regional Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with partner agencies and private institutions to highlight the World Café of Opportunities (WCO) on August 26, 2018 at the University of Baguio (UB) Gymnasium.
Set to coincide with the National Tech-Voc Day, the WCO is a one-stop shop for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates seeking possible jobs, skills upgrading training, and financial assistance opportunities.
According to TESDA-CAR Acting Regional Director Manuel B. Wong, the WCO is a simultaneous nationwide activity, launched on August 7, 2018 with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with government agencies like DOLE, DTI, DILG, DA, OWWA, DOST, DPWH POEA, CDA and financial institutions like LBP and DBP, among others.
“The regional offices here have agreed to replicate the MOU which will institutionalize the regular conduct of WCO as a convergence of efforts from the public and private sector to provide opportunities for the tech-voc graduates to improve their lives,” said Acting RD Wong after the Technical Working Group Meeting with partners last August 9.
He added that the regional activity will focus on the Construction, Tourism and Information and communication Technology (ICT) sectors as priority sectors given the “Build, Build, Build” program of the current administration and local industry demands.
“We encourage our graduates in these sectors to participate and avail of these opportunities and services to hasten their search for employment or livelihood and become productive contributors to our economy and society,” said Acting RD Wong.
Besides the private companies under the three sectors who will interview and process applications for their vacancies, schools or training centers offering TVET programs will also be invited to offer skills upgrading programs and assessment services.
Partner government agencies will also be present to offer pre-employment services like orientation, entrepreneurship guidance and financial assistance. Private financial institutions will also be invited to discuss and offer their services.
Information desks will be available at the Bagiuo City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT) on August 25, 2018 to accommodate inquiries on the WCO and TVET programs in the region
