SAN JUAN, Abra – The Turismo Isulong Mo Party-list underscored that the country’s tourism industry will be one of the major sectors that can recover from the serious negative impact of the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Former mayor Marco Bautista, second nominee of the Turismo Isulong Mo Party-list group, stated that the easing up of the restrictions on foreign and domestic travelers is a big boost in the ongoing efforts of the government to gradually and safely revive the country’s economy that had been heavily impacted by the health crisis.
While the tourism industry was among the sectors allowed to resume operation only recently, he pointed out that the eagerness of the people to move around to unwind and relieve their stress after having been confined in their residences for 2 years is a good indication of their willingness to spend and this will be instrumental in enhancing the economic activities of the people, especially in tourist destinations, as these will contribute in generating jobs for the displaced workers, among others.
The Turismo Isulong Mo nominee claimed that foreign and domestic travels have significantly increased since most of the areas in the country were placed under alert Level I that allowed tourism-related establishments to start getting back clients which is part of the gradual and safe revival of the said industry.
He stipulated that part of the eagerness of the people to move around is their desire to personally have a glimpse of the state of the tourist destinations after over 2 years of having been locked down if there are any improvements in the said destinations.
According to him, the expenditures of tourists will definitely help in gradually bringing back the vibrance of the country’s tourism sector which was one of the heavily impacted industries during the 2-year pandemic period.
Bautista disclosed that the Turismo Isulong Mo Party-list will work with concerned stakeholders to craft the government’s comprehensive tourism master development plan for an aggressive promotion of the country’s various tourist destinations to help in improving the state of the economy, especially in the rural communities so that more people can have sustainable jobs and economic activities.
He expressed hope that the country’s electorate will give a chance for the Turismo Isulong Mo Party-list group to have the needed seats in the House of Representatives for them to help in further enhancing the state of the country’s economy.
The Turismo Isulong Mo Party-list group is listed as No. 156 in the order of party-list organizations allowed by the Commission on Election (Comelec) to run for the available seats in the House of Representatives during the May 9, 2022 synchronized national and local elections.
Former Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo Teo is the first nominee of the turismo Isulong Mo Party-list group while Bautista, who also served as undersecretary to Teo during her stint in the tourism department, is the group’s second nominee.
