BAGUIO CITY – The City Government and local organizers of the upcoming visit of some 33 contestants of the Miss Universe to the country’s undisputed Summer Capital on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 unveiled the traffic plan for the said once of a lifetime activity in the city.
Both lanes of Upper Session Road from the rotunda of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Kalaw St, South Drive from the junction of Teachers Camp going to South Drive and PNR Utility Road junction going to Upper Session Road, from UP Drive junction will be closed to vehicular traffic on January 18, 2017 for the Miss Universe parade from 7 am up to the culmination of the said activity.
For the guidance of those using public utility jeepneys, PMA-Kias, Hillside, Loakan, Scout Barrio, Military Cut-Off jeeps shall take Military Cut-Off- BGH Rotunda-Kisad Rd-right turn to J. Abad Santos to Harrison Rd and make a U-TURN at Veterans Park to point of destination.
PNR, DPS, Greenwater jeeps shall take Nevada Road –Engineers Hill-Leonard Wood Road- BIR/Salud Mitra –YMCA-going down Fr. Carlu loop-General Luna-Upper Mabini- Lower Mabini St to point of destination.
From CBD take Harrison Road-Magsaysay- going up Upper General Luna-Happy Glen Loop then exit to Leonardwood Road to point of origin.
Vehicles from Leonard Wood road shall take BIR-Session Rotunda-Luneta Hill- going down Albert Road-Harrison Road to point of point of destination.
From CBD take Magsaysay- Bonifacio St going up Upper General Luna-Happy Glen Loop then exit to Leonard Wood Road to point of origin.
The visiting Miss Universe will be arriving in the city at around 7 am of January 18, 2017 via two chartered flights from Metro Manila and after which they will be proceeding to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) for their breakfast and a tour of the facilities of the premier military institution in Asia.
The visiting Miss Universe contestants will then proceed to Upper Session road where they will board four flower-decorated floats to be prepared by the local organizers for the mini-float and streeetdancing parade from the DILG rotunda up to the Baguio Country Club compound where the day-long activities will be held.
The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) will be in charge of the route security of the visiting beauty contestants while their close-in security will be provided by the Miss Universe organizers. PMA will be in charge of the security of the visitors once inside the academy while Baguio Country Club security personnel will be in charge o their security once inside the premises.
Local officials and organizers of the said once of a lifetime event in the city appealed to residents and visitors to be patient on the expected inconveniences that will be caused with the closure of some of the major roads in the city and urged them to join the people in witnessing the visit of the beauty contestants because the said event happens just once in a lifetime for the city.
