TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Residents and officials of Tuga gathered at their barangay hall recently to celebrate the barangay’s 94th Founding Anniversary and commemorate their local history.
The day’s festivities featured performances of the local school children, senior citizens, and other sectors. The dancers who participated in the ‘Awong chi Gangsa; Agtu’n chi Banga’ were also recognized for their contribution in the historic event.
Joining the happy occasion as guest of honor and speaker was Mayor Darwin Estrañero. Vice Governor Jocel Baac, King Gamatero, who represented Vice Mayor Dick Bal-o, and other visitors were also present.
“Agyaman tayo kakailyan kadagiti amin a parabur nga immay ditoy Tuga. Dagitoy ti nagserbi ken naaramat iti panagdur-as iti ili ken ti pannaka-iwayat ti talna,” Mayor Estrañero stated in his message.
Mentioning the various developmental projects the city government implemented and will be implementing in Tuga including the concreting of their roads and the installation of solar streetlights, the mayor sought the community’s continued support in his goal of a progressive Tabuk City.
“Alaek daytoy nga gundaway nga agyaman kadagiti amin nga tulong yo, ket kayat ko idanon ti naimpusuwan nga panagserbik a kas maysa nga adipen yo,” read the message of the mayor.
“Aramiden tayo amin a kabaelan tayo tapnu dagitoy nga arapaap ken plano tayo ket maiturong nga nasayaat. Manen, kakailyan agyamanak unay ket happy fiesta kadatayo amin,” the mayor committed.
Vice Mayor Bal-o, in a separate message delivered by Gamatero, congratulated Barangay Tuga in reaching the milestone of 94 years as a community.
He also lauded the barangay for its consecutive wins in the Gangsa awards, a feat that he said makes them a great role model to other barangays.
Barangay Tuga was founded in 1929 during the American colonial period with migrants from Cervantes and Tagudin in Ilocos Sur as the first settlers, according to elder Abelardo Hernaez.
