TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The provincial government adopted two Cabinet members of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. as adopted sons of the province for having been instrumental in putting up an inter-agency warehouse that will cater to the needs of the people in the Cordillera during disasters and emergency situations.
By virtue of a resolution unanimously passed by the provincial board presided over by Vice Governor Jocel C. Baac, Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo was given the native name ‘Mangom-ombaliyon’ which means brave, diligent and a fighter while Defense Senior Undersecretary Jose Faustino, Jr. was given the name ‘Laguniday’ which means valiant, firm and loyal.
Earlier, Secretary Tulfo and Undersecretary Faustino led the inauguration and turnover of the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) inter-agency warehouse at the Provincial Capital compound recently.
This warehouse that was built on a lot donated to the Office of Civil Defense–Cordillera (OCD-CAR) by the provincial government will serve for the prepositioning of food and non-food items for quicker response during natural calamities and emergency situations for the needs of Kalinga and other neighboring provinces in the Cordillera and Northern Luzon so that food and non-food items could be immediately dispatched to nearby communities without undue delay unlike in the present situation where the relief supplies come from other areas of the region.
Secretary Tulfo assured the people of Northern Luzon of the immediate deployment of the relief supplies to reach their respective communities as the warehouse is strategically planned purposely for effective and efficient response during natural calamities and emergency situations.
He added that the presence of the warehouse in Kalinga will definitely help remote communities around the Cordillera and the Cagayan Valley as local governments can easily access their relief supplies for the benefit of their constituents.
Gov. James Edduba expressed the gratitude of the people and officialdom of Kalinga to Secretary Tulfo and Undersecretary Faustino for providing the funds that established this warehouse saying that the presence of the warehouse within the central Cordillera will definitely contribute to more efficient and effective response to the needs of communities affected by natural calamities and other human-induced emergencies.
For his part, Rep. Allen Jesse C. Mangaoang pointed out that the operation of this warehouse will be a key in significantly improving the government’s response activities, especially in areas that are hardly hit by calamities in the future.
Mayor Darwin C. Estran͂ero claimed that Kalinga and other neighboring provinces in the Cagayan Valley will definitely have easier access to the stable relief supplies to address the needs of the people that will be impacted by future calamities and emergency situations.
