LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Agility and teamwork powered Binmaley and Urdaneta City in their successive outings for two straight wins in the first two days of the 1st Governor’s Inter-Town Basketball Tournament quarterfinal games recently at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) gymnasium.
Unbeatable since the start of the tourney, Binmaley shellacked San Manuel, 103-77, at the opening of the quarterfinals.
Urdaneta City team, on the other hand, defeated the popular team of Lingayen, 96-80.
Meanwhile, games on the second day went more exciting after the never-say-die team of Lingayen brought the house down and returned with a bang against the towering team of Bayambang with just a two-point advantage or 87-85 score at the end of the game.
Tightly guarded by the Mangaldan team leaving them tough time to penetrate, the powerful team of Binmaley, on the other hand, managed to drained 13 three-pointers and work well on their offense ending the game at their advantage with a 93-82 score.
Under the term of Gov. Pogi, who is a sports buff himself, the 1st Governor’s Cup Inter-Town Basketball Tournament which features local cagers aged 18 to 24 was conceptualized.
As earlier stated by the Governor, all sports activities will redound for his desire to unite Pangasinan, promote local tourism and ensure a drug-free Pangasinan through friendly match and competition.
The quarterfinals became more exciting with the livestreaming of all the games which went viral generating 1,170,015 reach in just two days. On instruction of Governor Espino, the Provincial Information Office assisted by the Management Information Services Office set-up and managed the livestreaming of the first two days of the quarterfinals using Facebook Live platform.
Results on the first day of the quarterfinals are as follows: Game I: Malasiqui-91, Bugallon-81; Game 2: Alaminos-90, Asingan-87; Game 3: Binmaley-103, San Manuel-77, Game 4: Bayambang-88, Labrador-80; Game 5: Calasiao-96, Tayug- 69.
The second day results, on the other hand, include the following: Game 1: Urdaneta- 89, Sto. Tomas-67; Game 2: Manaoag-85, Calasiao-77; Game 3: Lingayen-87, Bayambang-85; Game 4: Malasiqui 110, San Manuel 93; Game 5: Asingan-97, Villasis-94; Game 6: Binmaley-93, Mangaldan 82.
