LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap assured the residents of the thirteen towns of the province that more assistance and development projects are still coming to help in pursuing the province’s overall development aside from extending assistance needed by the people to improve their living condition in the future.
Amidst the ongoing wrath of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, visited the different municipalities in the province to personally distribute to the identified beneficiaries the financial assistance due them under the labor department’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program and for him to see the needs of the people and where he will be able to come in, especially in sourcing out the required resources to ensure the availability of basic services and ensure the implementation of development projects in the different places.
TUPAD is a financial assistance program of the government is given to the economically distressed people in the different parts of the country.
The lawmaker underscored that the significant effects of the wrath of the pandemic to the economy and to society have yet to be realized in full as it seems to be a ceaseless crisis as of the moment.
However, Congressman Yap claimed that as the province’s legislative caretaker, he will be always there to extend assistance to the people of the province, especially those who are struggling the most.

Among the recipients of the financial assistance from the TUPAD program include farmers, cupflower vendors and farmers, persons with disabilities, informal workers, and the like who were identified in coordination with the different local governments.
“We will unselfishly reach out, especially to those most affected by the pandemic who were not included in the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) distribution,’ Congressman Yap stressed.
He explained that TUPAD is one of the streams of help that accessed to assist the people who are in dire need of help from the government since the implementation of strict community quarantine measures in the different parts of the country in March.
Aside from sourcing the financial assistance from the TUPAD, Congressman Yap has establishing other public service projects for Benguet constituents, such as the multi-faceted mobile ‘tulong’ program that had been circulating in the different parts of the province over the past several months.
Based on the data obtained from Congressman Yap’s office, a total of 6,246 families directly benefited from the P21.2 million TUPAD allocation in the different parts of the province over the past several months.
Congressman Yap stated he will make sure even those who are in the remote villages will get assistance from the concerned government agencies.
For those who were not able to receive SAP or TUPAD benefits or any kind of financial assistance yet, he assured them that he will prioritize them through another program in the next few weeks.
