LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap expressed his greetings and congratulations to newly installed Benguet State University (BSU) president Dr. Felipe Salaing Comila after the Board of Regents overwhelmingly voted for him to lead the State-run higher education institution in the next four years.
In an interview aired over RPN-DZBS Baguio’s One for the Road program, Yap, who is a member of the BSU Board of Regents having been designated to represent the chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education, stated that Dr. Comila possesses the integrity and experience to help move the state university to greater heights amidst the challenges posed by the implementation of blended and flexible learning caused by the ongoing pandemic.
He pointed out that he will support the programs and projects of the new BSU administration to help in bringing back the harmonious working relationship among concerned government agencies, the local governments involved and the private sector because it is important for BSU to continue strengthening established local, regional, national and international relations to be able to achieve its overall goals and objectives being one of the premier higher education institutions in the country.
Congressman Yap claimed he was satisfied with the outcome of the voting for the new BSU president where Dr. Comila, former Director of the Institute of Public Administration, got 8 votes, the highest among the aspirants for the coveted position.
The Benguet Caretaker Congressman rallied BSU officials and employees, as well as concerned government agencies and local governments, to support the new BSU president who already assumed office so that the programs and projects can be successfully implemented to advance the state of the academe and higher learning in the province.
The lawmaker asserted Dr. Comila has the vision to improve the image of the institution through his desire to work for the overall physical development of the institution coupled with the improvement of the quality of education in the new normal setting of the academe.
For over 5 months, the position of BSU president was vacant after the Board of Regents decided not to renew the services of Dr. Feliciano Calora, Jr., who served the institution for over 4 years, until the search for the next BSU head commenced last November 26, 2020 resulting to the election of Comila for the said position.
He emphasized that the institution needs at this time a leader who can advance the interest of BSU in the local, regional, national and international scenes, coupled with the overwhelming support of concerned stakeholders who must be at the forefront in leading the way for quality education in the academe, especially that BSU is the biggest State-run higher education institution in the region. BSU has three campuses based in the capital town of La Trinidad, Buguias and Bokod that cater to the higher education needs of the youth from different parts of Northern Luzon.
