FLORA, Apayao – The Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) conducted the Provincial Rice Technology Forum (PRTF) Field Day on March 21, 2024, at Barangay Bagutong, Flora, Apayao.
The event showcased advancements in hybrid rice varieties and innovative biofertilizers, demonstrating their high yield, pest and disease resistance, and climate resilience. These technologies are instrumental in increasing farmers’ income and guaranteeing high-quality, and affordable rice for consumers.
The techno demo farms featured 10 hybrid rice varieties and 9 types of biofertilizers, including ameliorants, inorganic, and organic fertilizers. These products have undergone thorough testing to prove their effectiveness in boosting productivity while addressing environmental challenges.
To enhance the knowledge and skills of rice farmers, participants were organized into groups for field walks. During these walks, they observed crops and visited booths hosted by companies showcasing various agricultural products such as fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
The primary goal of the forum was to promote the adoption of hybrid rice technology and highlight the latest farming techniques. This involved the regional, provincial, and local governments, private sector partners, and farmers, aiming to improve yield, productivity, and food security.
As part of the event, newly elected officials in each association took their oath, administered by Dir. Glenn Estrada, Director for Digitalization and Value Chain Development. Additionally, the Rice Processing Center (RPC) was awarded to the Malayugan Rice Granary Farmers Association.
