BAGUIO CITY – The Berkeley Astronauts, Baguio City High School (BCHS), Saint Louis University Laboratory High School (SLU-LHS), and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Montessori (OLMCM) brought home titles when they whipped their respective opponents in front of the parents, children and basketball enthusiasts crowd at the YMCA gymnasium who witnessing their sons and daughters perform their best in the culminating games of the 12th YMCA-Inter-School Elementary and High School basketball tilt finals last January 29, 2017, here.
The winners for the tournament are: for the ELEMENTARY DIVISION: Champion – Berkeley Aquanauts, 1st Runner Up – Lucban Elementary School “A”, 2ND Runner Up- University of the Cordilleras Grade School High School. HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS DIVISION: Champion – Baguio City High School, 1st Runner Up – University of the Cordilleras Grade School High School, 2nd Runner Up- Saint Louis University Laboratory High School.
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS DIVISION, Cluster “A”; Champion – Saint Louis University Laboratory High School, 1st Runner Up-Berkeley High School, 2nd Runner Up-Baguio City High School. HIGH SCHOOL BOYS DIVISION, Cluster “B”; Champion-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Montessori, 1st Runner Up-BERKELEY “B”, 2nd Runner Up-YMCA Basketball Club.
With forty four teams in four divisions participating in the tournament that lasted for four months which started in September 2016, is such an experience for their preparations in joining other tournaments or in major tournaments in the near future, as trimming down teams to the finals brought excitement to the tournament through the efforts and performance of every team, where the best teams for 2016 were awarded in simple rites.
Also given awards were the best players in each division as a result of their performance statistics from the start of the league to the finals, game attendance, and personal attitude during games. The Awardees were for Elementary Division: Carl Velasquez of Berkeley Aquanauts. High School Girls Division: Althea Nicole Dulay of Baguio City High School. High School Boys Cluster “A”-Benon Uy of Saint Louis University Laboratory High School and Cluster “B”- Allen Aguilar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Montessori.
The YMCA Cup Award, as a special award, was also given to deserving teams in the tournament as a result of their team performance and statistics, team participation, attendance in games during the tournament. This award went to Berkeley School for Elementary Division and Saint Louis University Laboratory High School for the High School Division.
The awarding ceremonies was graced by Marlon Tabdi, YMCA PE and Sports Chair, who thanked the participating teams, and their parents for their support, as he invited all schools to the 14th YMCA Cup of this year.
The YMCA CUP for elementary and High School, now on its 12th season, is known as one of the crowd drawing sports programs the YMCA conducts for in-school youth as one venue of their learning process in the development of their skills and abilities in the field of basketball.
