LUNA, Apayao – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) celebrated the successful completion of the training of 25 graduates from the Farmer Livestock School (FLS) at the Agri-Vet Training Center, Provincial Veterinary Office, San Gregorio, Luna, Apayao, on March 5, 2024.
Said farmers were given necessary skills and knowledge on Large Ruminant Production and underwent eight months of intensive training.
Throughout the program, participants received comprehensive training in large ruminant production, covering aspects such as cattle and carabao farming, breeding, nutrition, health management, and proper handling techniques.
The first batch of dairy farmers from the municipalities of Flora, Santa Marcela, Luna, and Pudtol, were also beneficiaries of the Farmer Livestock School on Dairy Buffalo Production (FLS-DBP).
In recognition of their dedication, each farmer was previously given two buffalo heads, awarded on November 9, 2023, at the Agri-Vet Training Center.
Governor Elias C. Bulut, during the ceremony, encouraged the dairy farmers to do their best in boosting the dairy and livestock industry of the province, explaining the importance of their roles in the local economy.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Ralph Verzon, meantime, encouraged the farmers to share their knowledge to their fellow in their communities and to ensure the proper care of the animals received, thereby supporting livelihoods and enhancing food security.
Provincial Administrator Edmar Pascua, for his part, reminded the farmers the commitment of the provincial government and the many programs that the governor has been supporting to speed up development and progress that are felt by the people.
In Apayao, buffalo raising holds significant potential as it can be utilized for various products, including dairy and carabeef, which are in high demand due to their nutritional value and quality.
