City officials recently reminded all public and private schools in the city to provide clean and well-maintained rest rooms for their students.
Under Resolution No. 132, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the school administration bears the responsibility to provide a healthy and hygienic environment conducive to learning, which encompasses providing sanitary and well-maintained rest rooms for the welfare and comfort of their respective students.
During the Scout Official for a Day (SCOFAD) session held on October 23, 2023, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Raymund Gabriel M. Lerio that required all public and private high schools in the city to provide clean and well-maintained rest rooms for their students.
The resolution was anchored on pertinent provisions of the Constitution that provides that the State shall protect and promote the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them.
The council claimed that a favorable and healthy learning environment is also dependent on good school facilities, including clean and well-maintained rest rooms.
Further, the body stipulated that dirty and unsanitary restrooms in public and private schools directly impact the health of the students.
The council emphasized that unsanitary restrooms in public and private schools directly impact the health of the students and that unsanitary toilets can also pose significant problems for students leading to several negative consequences such as the spread of illness and infections.
The council argued that apart from health risks, dirty toilets can also contribute to stress and frustration thereby creating an unpleasant school environment that hamper learning.
Copies of this resolution will be transmitted to all public and private schools in the city for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
