LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Three district offices of the Cordillera office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-CAR) were chosen by the central office as among the recipients of the agency’s eco-friendly awards that will be conferred to them during fitting ceremonies at the DPWH central office on Monday, December 17, 2018.
The three eco-friendly district offices of the agency in the region include the First Benguet District Engineering Office, the lower Kalinga District Engineering Office and the Second Apayao District Engineering Office.
First Benguet district engineer Ireneo Gallato, Lower Kalinga district engineer David Buliyat and Second Apayao district engineer Januario Garde will be at the DPWH central office to personally receive the awards which will be conferred to them by Public Works Secretary Mark Villar.
Earlier, the DPWH central office launched a nationwide search for the eco-friendly district offices to help in empowering DPWH officials and employees to be mindful of making their offices eco-friendly by venturing in projects inside and outside their offices that will promote environmental preservation and protection.
Last month, Gallato assumed his new post as district engineer of the FBDEO while Buliyat was assigned to be the district engineer of LKDEO.
Among the criteria adopted by the DPWH central office in judging the eco-friendly district offices include the utilization of available spaces inside and outside the offices for the propagation of flowers and plants that will help in beautifying the compound of the said offices.
For the past several years, most of the compounds of district offices had been unattended and had served as the junkyard of unused units of heavy equipment and government vehicles but since the implementation of the search for eco-friendly offices, the different district offices had been converted into virtual scenic sites because of the presence of flowering plants that add up to the beautiful sites inside and outside the said offices.
At present, there are some 183 district offices distributed in the 17 regions all over the country.
The search for eco-friendly district offices DPWH officials and employees to be creative in improving the state of their offices to make the same environment-friendly and providing added ambience not only for them but also for their increasing number of clients.
Aside from the search for eco-friendly district offices in the country, DPWH regional and district offices are also mandated to establish environmentally friendly sites along major roads in their areas of jurisdiction where motorists could drop by and enjoy a well-deserved rest before proceeding with their travel to their desired destinations in the different parts of the archipelago.
Gallato was the former district engineer of the LKDEO while Buliyat served as the district engineer of the FBDEO before the implementation of the reshuffle in the region that caused their swapping of their positions.
Both district engineers committed to sustain the implementation of eco-friendly policies in their new assignments to give justice to the eco-friendly awards which they will be receiving from no less than Secretary Villar next week.
