BAGUIO CITY – The Top four teams in two brackets of the 3rd Piraso Cup will be moving on to the Semi-final round this week after the last elimination games culminated last Sunday and the rankings determined through quotient system.
During games last Sunday, January 28, 2018, the final round for the eliminations, the Brothers Club knocked out the Insuns from the semis by bagging the “must-win” game and earn themselves a semifinal slot.
The Brotherhood club, recently losers to Insuns in their previous game, capitalized the Insuns’ shallow bench to control the boards and roll ahead to a 29-17 score at the end of the first half of play.
The Insuns tried to come back in the start of the 2nd half action but came short of time and stamina, resulting in a 23 point loss, 112 – 89.
Brotherhood club winning of the game also propelled them to a spot in the semis for Group “A” through quotient system over the Insuns.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Team Piraso was also in a “must win” situation for a semifinals appearance.
They went up against Alejo and gutted out an 85-79 win that will insure the a place in the top two teams for the group.
Piraso got Alejo on foul trouble in the fourth quarter that often have them visit the fifteen foot line in the dying minutes of the game. Their nine conversions on the line helped them win the game.
Team Parapad had an easy win over Budz by controlling the boards and the game pace. The pace dictated by Paradpad got the Budz off-guard and netted them a 40-26 first half score.
Budz mounted a comeback on the second half but to no avail as Parapad continued neutralize it with control of the boards, resulting in a 90-68 end score at the fourth quarter action. The win netted Paradpad the top position for group B.
The tournament’s penultimate matches are scheduled on Sunday, February 4, 2018 with Group A’s Brothers going against Time Out in game one while Group “B’s” Piraso going up against Parapad in the next game. Winners on Sundays games will move on to the finals while the losers will vie for the 3rd place.
