LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – A sea of over five thousand individuals in red bandanas joined the Philippine Red Cross Pangasinan Chapter’s 70th anniversary on May 22, at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC).
Commemorating platinum years of service to humanity, the event, spearheaded by Florame S. Magalong, Philippine Red Cross Dagupan Chapter Administrator, acknowledged the public for the outpouring of support to the I AM HUMANITY @70 to form a human cross.
Acting Governor, Vice Governor Ferdinand Calimlin representing the provincial chief executive lauded the support extended by each individual to be part of Philippine Red Cross’ attempt to form a human cross form. According to Vice Gov. Calimlim, the act signifies the heart of each member of the community to be there for others just like the provincial government’s continuous efforts in prioritizing and providing premier services to the its constituents.
The Philippine Red Cross as repeatedly emphasized during the event is an organization created by individuals with incomparable dedication to service to humanity, rooting from volunteerism, and the embodiment of heroism in the hearts of each member of the organization.
Magalong added that the Philippine Red Cross Pangasinan Chapter, one of the 15 pioneer chapters inaugurated outside the National Headquarters in Manila in 1947, will always be first, always ready, and always there. The successful event showcased how volunteerism is the strong force behind the stronger Philippines.
Aside from the formation of the cross, booths offering free blood typing, lecture on demonstration of first aid and basic life support, hygiene promotion sessions, basic international humanitarian law lecture, lecture on leadership, showcase of disaster management equipment, and welfare service orientation were also offered in the Barrio fiesta themed event.
