LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – some sixty five students from the different schools in the province actively participated in a one day fire safety and management training conducted by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Benguet.
Fire Superintendent Jesse Annasiw, Benguet provincial fire marshal, said that the primary purpose of the said training is to instill awareness among the youth on the importance of fire safety and management and to empower them to be advocates of fire prevention in their respective schools and communities.
He disclosed that after the lectures, the participants also joined fire suppression activities and were also trained on basic life support for them to be able to become responsible in the handling of flammable materials inside and outside their homes.
Annasiw expressed his gratitude to the PDRRMO for involving the BFP in the conduct of the fire safety and management training among the province’s youth for the bureau to be able to reach out to as many individuals to provide them with important fire prevention tips to present the occurrence of fires that pose a serious threat to life and limb in the future.
The BFP Benguet official claimed that similar activities will be conducted province-wide once the PDRRMO will make available the appropriate resources to replicate the successful fire safety and management training that was earlier conducted in Wangal for them to be able to reach out to the youth to become active partners of the government in efforts to prevent the occurrence of fires not only inside their homes but also in their communities such as forest fires.
Annaswi lauded the participants for putting premium in completing the said training which will serve as part of their skills and knowledge with the hope that they will be able to influence others to join the conduct of similar activities in the future to improve fire suppression in the countryside.
