MANKAYAN, Benguet – Some 811 persons with disabilities (PWDs) from the 12 barangays of the municipality will be given relief assistance by the local government and the Office of Benguet caretaker congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap.
Mayor Frenzel Ayong said that the local government already received from Yap’s office some 40 cavans of rice which is the second wave of rice subsidy from the lawmaker which will be augmented by the municipality for distribution to the PWDs that part part of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors that must be given appropriate assistance during the prevailing crisis.
Initially, he disclosed that the local government plans to give each of the listed PWDs from the 12 barangays half cavan of rice to provide them the needed supply of the stable food for them to cope with the serious negative impact of the Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine.
The local chief executive stated that the half cavan of rice for the PWDs will be in addition to the earlier 10 kilos of rice and other relief goods that were provided to the identified vulnerable and marginalized households that had been done in coordination with the different barangays.
Based on the list that was released by the local government, the barangays with the corresponding number of PWDs are Balili – 86, Bedbed- 34, Bulalacao – 49, Cabiten – 57, Colalo – 62, Guinaoang – 64, Paco – 111, Palasaan – 102, Poblacion – 87, Sapid – 35, Tabeo – 79 and Taneg – 47.
“We will continue to look for ways by which we will be able to sustain the provision of whatever assistance that will be available for the members of the vulnerable and marginalized sectors of the municipality. We have to admit that we cannot provide relief assistance to all of the people in our locality that is why we are prioritizing the distribution of our available resources to those who are really in need of help,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
Aside from sustaining the provision of relief assistance to the town’s vulnerable and marginalized sectors, the local government also donated huge volume of vegetables to different individuals, groups and local governments that had been requesting support for the provision of relief assistance to their identified beneficiaries.
Ayong expressed his gratitude to Rep. Yap for his commitment in providing assistance to the people of Benguet during these trying times as the lawmaker also committed to bring to the different municipalities in the coming weeks his creative mobile ‘ tulong’ program so that more people will be able to benefit from the goods and services that will be made available for free.
He claimed that the local government will continue to be active in engaging other local governments in the different parts of Luzon on what will be their needs so that the municipality will be able to look for whatever available resources that could be shared for their constituents to allow them to survive the prevailing crisis and allow them to be resilient in bringing back the vibrant economic activities and sources of livelihood of the people in their areas of jurisdiction once the extended Luzonwide enhanced community quarantine will be lifted by the end of the month.
