CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police authorities assured people in the countryside that law enforcers will be visible in the remotest areas of the region to contribute in efforts of the government in improving the perception of the people on the role of policemen in making the country a better place to live, study, work and do business.
Chief Superintendent Rolando Z. Nana, regional director of the Cordillera office of the Police Regional Office (PRO-COR, said that part of the long-term strategies of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is to ensure the presence of law enforcers in the remotest areas of the country to make the people feel that they are not neglected by the government in terms of catering to anti-criminality, anti-terrorism and peacekeeping initiatives geared towards the realization of lasting peace.
The PNP and the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) are celebrating Police Community Relations (PCR) month wherein numerous activities had been lined up by the national headquarters, regional, provincial, city ad municipal police stations to drum beat the celebration for the whole month of July.
The police official underscored that police community relations should go beyond the celebration of PCR month considering that interacting with the people in the communities where they are assigned is one of the major duties and responsibilities of a policeman and gaining the trust and confidence of the people to the law enforcers is definitely a huge task ahead for policemen working on the ground.
“The celebration of PCR month is geared towards drum beating our efforts to reach out to the people living in the different places of our areas of assignment but actually police community relations is a daily activity of our men and women in uniform,” Nana stressed.
He claimed that the PNP had been implementing its numerous PCR programs and projects to the fullest, one of its strategies in trying to win back the trust and confidence of the people to the police.
According to him, the PNP continuous to improve on its strategies and interventions geared towards improving their programmed PCR programs and projects to help inculcate into the minds of the people the importance of having the people work side by side with the law enforcers to thwart any untoward incident being instigated by interest individuals and groups to disrupt the peace and order situation in any part of the archipelago.
Nana emphasized people play a key role in the prevention of untoward incidents that will greatly affect the peace and situation of a community that is why it is still best for law enforcers to engage the people in the community, regardless of whatever affiliations, for them to cooperate when the necessary peacekeeping strategies will be rolled out because it will be the residents that will also serve as the vital source of information for the police to craft the appropriate interventions to curb criminality in certain places.
The PRO-COR chief stated that peace and order serve as a key factor in the socio-economic development of communities because prospective investors will be convinced to put up their desired businesses in areas that are free from whatever activities that tend to disrupt the smooth flow of business serving as the source of economic activities and sources of livelihood of the people.
