TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Barangay Bantay hosted the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) Seminar sponsored by the city government through the Dangerous Drugs Referral Center (DDRC) headed by PSMS Alvius Cordero in partnership with the PNP-Tabuk and PDEA.
At least 50 participants from various members of the community, barangay officials, academe, and youths attended the two-day seminar.
Mr. Orlan Gunday kicked off the session with a presentation on the Moral Recovery Program. It is a program that normally concludes before the BADAC because it strengthens the message by instilling in the listeners the significance of sticking to Kalinga’s three (3) basic values: Paniyaw, Ngilin, and Bain.
“Daytuy nga programa ket mangted lawag kadatayo nga ti Edukasyon ken Kultura ket saan a mangisina, nu di ket, mangiturong iti panagbalbaliw ken pannakaporma ti maysa nga komunidad,” he explained.
The PDEA and Cordero led the lecture, which covered topics such as the National Drug Situation and the Kalinga Drug Situation; Types of Dangerous Drugs and Their Effects; Unlawful Acts and Penalties Under RA 9165; Participation of the Family, Students, Teachers, and School Authorities in the Enforcement of RA 9165; DILG, DDB, and CSC Issuances Related to the Enforcement of RA 9165; and Elected Officials’ Response.
On the penalties given to anyone caught violating the Act, Brgy. Kagawad Renee Sacki said, “dingdinggen tayo pay laeng dagituy nga penalty na ket kabutbutengen nga aramiden. Datayo kuma nga nagannak ket iturturong ken bagbagaan tayo dagitoy annak tayo ta pilpilien da ti barbarkadaen da ta narigat iti mapasubo.”
In his message, he praised the city government for funding such an activity to assist the involved agencies in addressing the province’s drug problem. He really hopes that the barangay would remain a drug-free community indefinitely. By Rio Bassong and Gail Awingan
