TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Tabuk City Traffic Management Council (TCTMC) is proposing the opening of new tricycle routes in an effort to address the proliferation of ‘colorum’ tricycles or those plying the roads without a franchise permit.
Councilor Marc Duguiang, TCTMC vice-chairperson, said the proposed new routes would cater to colorums plying the area to help them legitimize their operations, and in turn bring them under the regulatory control of the city government.
Among the proposed new routes are: Agbannawag-Lacnog–Lacnog West–Bulo; Magnao-Guilayon-Nambucayan; San Julian–Balong–Dilag; Laya East–Laya West; Amlao–Suyang–Balawag-Malin-awa; Calanan–Bado Dangwa; Cudal-Calaccad delivery; Masablang–Lanna–Tuga; Cabaritan–Gobgob–New Tanglag; Nambaran delivery; Bantay delivery; Malalao delivery; and San Juan delivery.
The proposed new routes are included in the tricycle route plan approved by the TCTMC during its meeting last May 17, 2023.
Duguiang said once approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the tricycle route plan will pave the way for the city government to finally lift the moratorium on the issuance of new tricycle franchises which is blamed for the rise of colorums as the demand for transport grows in the city.
It would be recalled that the city government implemented the moratorium to comply with the Joint Memorandum Circular No. 001 of the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Transportation ordering local government units to stop issuing franchises pending the approval of their transport route plans.
