PASAY CITY – The municipality of Calanasan garnered well-deserved acclaim as it secured a third-place finish in the Aliwan Fiesta Float Competition held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex last July 15, 2023.
Aliwan Fiesta, now on its 18th edition, is celebrated as one of the grandest festivals in the country. Following a three-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s festivities focused on celebrating indigenous culture and folkloric traditions, urging participants to infuse their entries with authentic cultural elements specific to their localities.
Representing Calanasan, the Lapat Festival Float captivated both judges and spectators with its exceptional design, which creatively showcased the economic source of the town. Leaving a good impression on all who witnessed its splendor, the craftsmanship, and attention to detail likewise highlighted the unique charm and lively spirit of the locality.
The Aliwan Fiesta has always been a platform for communities to exhibit their heritage and economic potential. This year, the participants went above and beyond in their efforts to captivate the audience, presenting the distinctiveness of their respective localities.
In addition to the float competition, the festival also featured a street dance showdown, a search for the Festival Queen, and a regional bazaar showcasing native products and culinary delights from participating regions. These activities brought together diverse cultures and traditions of the Philippines, promoting unity and appreciation among participants and audiences.
Fred J. Elizalde, chairman of the FJE Group of Companies, expressed his admiration and the significance of fiestas in the country, stating that “As the highest manifestation of community life in the country, fiestas have inspired some of the greatest and more enduring creations in Philippine arts, cuisine, and even attire.” He emphasized that Aliwan Fiesta has grown exponentially over the years, bridging regional differences and exemplifying a culture of peace.
Aliwan Fiesta was first conceptualized in 2003 by Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), in collaboration with the CCP and the cities of Manila and Pasay. The event has since become an annual celebration of the country’s rich cultural heritage, uniting Filipinos from all corners of the archipelago.
Meantime, Tourism Officer Krinezza Vail Boday-Lawat extends her gratitude to those who helped the float team from the sponsors to the local officials. “I would like to thank the entire team of the Lapat Festival Float for their devotion and hard work, and our ever-supportive mayor, Shamir M.
