BAGUIO CITY – The Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB) of Apayao convened at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Cordillera (MGB-CAR) Conference Hall on November 16, 2023, for its 4th quarter meeting, shedding light on the advancements in the local mining sector.
MGB CAR Regional Director Fay Apil spearheaded the session, providing updates on the Small Scale Mining Contracts (SSMC) for Minahang Bayan (MB) in Calanasan, specifically MB Bulawan and MB Astodillo. The PMRB Technical Working Group (TWG) affirmed the successful completion of the free prior and informed consent (FPIC) process for these sites. However, they acknowledged that the documentation process is still underway.
Simultaneously, applicants for Minahang Bayan in Conner are currently undergoing the FPIC process.
In a parallel development, Apil announced the green light for the renewal of permits for 31 commercial sand and gravel (CSAG) operators in the province. The decision, solidified earlier today, reinforces the regulatory framework overseeing sand and gravel extraction activities in Apayao.
Moreover, foresters from MGB-CAR assured the public that all CSAG providers in Apayao adhere to safety standards and eco-friendly practices, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable and responsible resource extraction. By JCM
