CALANASAN, Apayao—The Provincial Health Office (PHO), in its campaign to have enough blood supply in the province, did a blood donation drive on November 28, 2023 at the Calanasan Rural Health Unit (RHU) collecting a total of 52 bags each containing 500 cubic centimeters (cc) of blood from donors.
This volume of blood supply would ensure additional blood reserve for those in need, especially in emergency cases.
Conducted by the PHO and the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (FNLGHTC), the event attracted fifty-two donors, including fire department and police personnel, residents, and government employees.
Under the theme “Daga mo Biag ko,” the primary goal of the initiative was to gather a range of blood products crucial for saving lives, particularly among in-patients requiring blood transfusions. The collected blood reserves serve as a vital resource for various medical situations, such as pregnancy complications, dengue, accident injuries, surgical procedures, and cancer treatments, as highlighted by PHO Blood Coordinator Manny Nicolas.
Donors expressed their support to the multifaceted benefits of blood donation. These benefits extend beyond health awareness promotion to emotional and psychological satisfaction, and developing stronger communal ties.
Juliet A. Nicolas, Head of FNLGHTC and Senior Blood Bank Officer, commended the donors for their bravery and commitment to the health sector’s mission of providing safe, effective, and sufficient blood and blood products to all patients in need. By J Dela Torre
