LUNA, Apayao – The Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA) demonstrated its commitment to the well-being of its senior citizens by extending vital assistance to bedridden individuals in the province.
This humanitarian effort is spearheaded by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and has been made possible through a generous allocation of Php 495,840 from the PSWD Regular Fund for the year 2023.
A total of 550 deserving beneficiaries have been identified in collaboration with the Municipal Local Government Units (MLGU’s) and the Barangay Local Government Units (BLGU’s) officials. An exhaustive process involving a thorough master listing ensured that each beneficiary’s need was accurately documented. This data was then submitted to the PSWDO for thorough evaluation.
Leeshel U. Lopez, the program focal person, personally conducted visits to various MLGU’s and the homes of the beneficiaries to ensure the effective distribution of the assistance. This outreach initiative commenced in April 2023 and continues to the present day. The comprehensive assistance package comprises essential items such as Adult Milk Powder, Quaker Oat, Adult Diapers, and Plastic Bags, all tailored to meet the unique needs of the bedridden senior citizens.
The most vulnerable among us, particularly the senior citizens, often find themselves isolated without nearby kin to provide assistance during times of distress. These individuals, affectionately referred to as the Older Person sector, are the most profoundly affected by social hardships. The PGA’s timely intervention through this initiative not only addresses their physical needs but also underscores its dedication to the welfare of its elderly citizens. By Maureen L. Legazpi
