LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan reported the accomplishments of the municipal council through live stream to maximize the social media platform in disseminating the information that should be cascaded to the public on the numerous activities of the local legislative body.
Under the provisions of Republic Act (RA) 7160 or the local Government code of the Philippines, the municipal council is empowered to enact ordinances, approve resolutions and appropriate funds for the general welfare of the municipality and its inhabitants.
Awingan disclosed that from July 1 to December 31, 2019 the municipal was able to pass some 416 resolutions, act on some 163 committee reports and 15 ordinances that included 2 codes, particularly the town’s environmental code and the disaster risk reduction and management code.
Further, from January 1 to December 7, 2020, the municipal council was able to approve 460 resolutions, act on 147 committee reports and pass 32 ordinances that also included 2 codes, the La Trinidad Incentive and Investment code and the La Trinidad Sustainable Tourism Code.
Before the onslaught of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 pandemic, Vice Mayor Awingan was able to conduct numerous committee hearings and public consultations that beefed up the approved and enacted legislations pursuant to the recommendations derived from the said activities.
On the other hand, members of the municipal council actively participated in the affairs of the local government related to the committees that they are handling to ensure that there will be harmonious working relationship between the executive department and the legislative department for the aggressive implementation of the local government’s programs, projects and activities geared towards elevating the status of the municipality to greater heights.
During the implementation of the various levels of community quarantine, Awigan stated that the municipal council was able to conduct online legislative sessions aside from the strict observance of prescribed health and safety protocols during public and committee hearings as well as regular sessions.
