Some 500 employees from eleven government agencies and a private institution in Benguet and Baguio City are currently participating in the recently kicked off 3rd Benguet Invitational Inter-Agency Friendship Games initiated by the Provincial Governor’s Office headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas.
Governor Diclas in his message during the opening of the event underscored the importance of building networks and strengthening camaraderie and sportsmanship among the different agencies citing the purpose of the sports event.
Apart from strengthening values underpinning partnership, the sports event also provides a venue to improve the employees’ fitness and well-being, Governor Diclas added.
There will be three different sports activities the employees are set to participate in: basketball for men in two categories, one for 45 years old and above and another for those under 45 years old; volleyball for men and women; and darts also for men and women.
Basketball games are set every Friday while volleyball games are scheduled every Thursday. The venue for both games are at the capitol covered court (behind the capitol building).
Meanwhile, dart games are slated for September 1 and 2 this year, the same month all the activities are expected to conclude.
The participating agencies are Benguet National High School, COA, DPWH, BGHMC, NIA, DepEd-Benguet, BPPO, DOJ, Baguio City Government, BSU, CCDC, and the Provincial Government of Benguet.
Provincial Sport Development Officer Dean Mark Monang said several more agencies were not able to join as they signified their participation past the registration deadline saying he hopes to have them for the next inter-agency sports activity.
Further, Monang said supporters of the players are invited to the venue to cheer for their teams.
The sports event was kicked off last July 7 through an opening program graced by the different provincial officials and DPWH-CAR Regional Director Khadaffy D. Tanggol.
