BAGUIO CITY – City officials recently authorized the local chief executive to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agriculture–Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) represented by its officer-in-charge- regional executive director lawyer Jennilyn M. Dawayan for the transfer of funds amounting to PhP5 million for the implementation of the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita financial grant assistance program in the city.
Under Resolution No. 734, series of 2023, local legislators stated that the city government is among the forefront cities in Northern Luzon in agriculture commodity production which is brought and sold to supply the volume requirement in Metro Manila and other lowland provinces and that it also serves as the transshipment point of vegetables coming from the vegetable-producing communities of Ifugao and Mountain.
Earlier, City Veterinarian Silardo B. Bested requested an authority from the local legislative body for the local chief executive to enter into an agreement with the DA-CAR to facilitate the transfer of funds amounting to PhP5 million concerning the implementation of the Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita financial grant assistance program in the city.
This program is to support the improvement of the distribution system of agricultural produce from farm gate to market, directly linking farmers and fisherfolk to consumers in high demand and depressed areas, creating an additional market for small farmers and fisherfolk, and providing consumers with agri-fishery products and other basic commodities at affordable prices.
The city government signified its intent in seeking the assistance of the DA-CAR in the construction of Kadiwa stores and provision of trading capital for its accredited farmers’ cooperatives and associations to enhance their capacities within its jurisdiction to transport agricultural products to markets and also to improve its capacity in delivering its services to farmers, market linkage programs and serve in preparing food relief and agricultural assistance, especially during emergencies.
The council stated that the signed agreement should be submitted to the local legislative body for confirmation pursuant to existing laws, rules and regulations. By Dexter A. See
