A total of 27 male inmates of the Cordillera office of the Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP-CAR) Baguio City Jail successfully completed the 3-day first-time ever online skills training spearheaded by the Baguio City School of Arts and Trades, headed by the Vocational School Administrator, Arlene L. Cadalig on Process Food by Salting, Curing, and Smoking leading to Food Processing NCII via Zoom app conducted last August 11-13, 2021.
This is in partnership with the BJMP headed by J/SUPT Mary Ann Tresmanio.
The training was officially opened during the Training Induction Program (TIP) which was facilitated by the BCSAT Student Services Division Head, Vilma W. Tolarba. The BCSAT- Vocational School Administrator II, Arlene Ligos Cadalig, welcomed the participants. The Regional Director, Dante Joaquin Navarro delivered his inspirational message saying, “Huwag kayong mawalan ng pag-asa. Ang matututunan ninyo dito sa training ay malaking bagay na magagamit ninyo. This would give you an opportunity for your livelihood or even go into entrepreneurship”. RD Navarro, further stressed that the training is the first-ever online training conducted among TTIs which is one of the good practices of the institution in order to deliver learning and skills in this time of pandemic. The online training skill was handled by BCSAT-Trainers, Shirley A. Cael, Assistant Professor and Mary Kristine Iris C. Pasion, Assistant Professor.
Furthermore, Baguio City Jail, JINSP Vilma L. Fangsilat was present in school for an on-site participation while the inmates were in Baguio City Jail.
Meanwhile, the participants took the chance to attend virtually the performance of the Cordillera’s Nightingale, Ingrid M. Payaket during the Mental Health Break/Stress Management through a song therapy that was conducted in the school.
The participants were able to produce processed foods such as skinless pork longanisa, bacon, beef tapa, salted egg, smoked pork, and smoked fish. The processed products of the inmates were brought in the school while the products made by the trainers were brought to Baguio City Jail for evaluation.
