LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Provincial Government of Benguet held a lecture on traditional tattoo recently at the Benguet Museum in celebration of the International Museum Month.
With the theme “Museums, Sustainability, and Well-being,” the activity aims to promote Benguet cultural heritage through a lecture on traditional tattoo facilitated by Kenneth Kelcho, Tourism Officer I, and a local tattoo exhibition with BIYAG 2023 Influencer Awardee and tattoo artist Wilma Gaspili.
Almost 50 students from Regional Science High School participated in the activity who were appreciative of the insights they gained from the lecture. Several of them even got tattoo for free from Gaspili.
Kelcho highlighted the history of the practice of tattooing in the province and encouraged the youth to build and strengthen their cultural pride. The activity also provides a venue to promote the Benguet Museum, he added, stating more activities will be conducted which will involve the youth and other sectors in the pursuit of cultural preservation. He also thanked the Provincial Governor’s Office for the support they receive to ensure the successful implementation of their programs on culture and the arts.
Also in attendance were Board Member Juan “Coy” Nazarro, Jr. and representatives of Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas and Acting Governor Ericson Lawagey Felipe who extended their messages of support.
