LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office is focusing more on the Parent Effectiveness Services (PES) and the Enhancement and Reaffirming of Paternal Abilities (ERPAT) parenting this year.
According to Juana Banaue, provincial social welfare and development officer, underscored that Parenting is important and the best thing that a parent can give to their children is their time.
“A responsible parenting is not just the matter of giving money to their children instead, it is the willingness of a father and a mother to give time to their children, their presence, their love and their care. It’s not because you don’t have the money, your home is not happy because the behavior of a child will always go back to what is happening at your home. It’s not because you are as high, you went to school and you have a lot of money to be called a responsible parents.”
She said that 70% of the behavior of a child is coming from what he or she learns inside the house and depends on how his or her parents foster him or her while growing up and 30% also is what he or she learns outside their home.
She added that through going to different barangay and coordinating with their captive groups such as the teachers to conduct lectures and seminars, they will be able to disseminate and strengthen and reorient the parents for a more effective parenting. Parents should also monitor the activities of their children because there are a lot of outside forces which are very strong to affect their children.
