LUNA, Apayao – As the fire prevention month kicks off, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Apayao reminded the people of the importance of working together in combatting possible devastation that can be brought by fire.
With a series of month-long activities under the theme “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-iisa,” this year’s observance emphasizes teamwork in fire prevention and ensuring the safety of the community.
March marks Fire Prevention Month, dedicated to raising awareness about fire causes, hazards, and dangers. Proclamation No. 115-A, signed by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, and Proclamation No. 360 in 1986 designated March as “Fire Prevention Month” or “Burn Prevention Month.”
The campaign aims to heighten public consciousness about safety, advocating for caution, vigilance, sobriety, prudence, and adherence to the law year-round.
Provincial Fire Marshall FCInsp Mark Anthony P. Dangatan urges public participation and support in BFP’s efforts to prevent fires, especially calling on local governments to collaborate in safeguarding lives and properties through public education and fire suppression initiatives.
As Apayao grows in terms of the number of business establishments and residential buildings, the risk of fire increases. In 2023, there were 4 recorded fire incidents, and electrical connections, playing with matches, and an open flame caused by a lighter were among the leading causes of fire. The BFP constantly encourages people to protect their homes and, most importantly, their families.
