BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), for the whole month of December is now implementing “Oplan Paalala”, wherein fire personnel are going around every city barangays for information advocacy for a fire free yuletide season.
Baguio City Chief Fire Marshall Ferdinand Joe Bangyod, in a Department of Health led Kapihan media forum last week, warns the public that aside from possible injuries, firecrackers can also post damages to their properties, as he reported seven firecracker-related fire recorded in the region last yuletide season, wherein four of them happened in Abra and all caused by “Kwitis”, a flying type of firecracker.
With firecrackers and pyrotechnics vending is still ban here in Baguio City, Bangyod also reported that they are also conducting storage inspection to ensure that no enterprising person or group will bring their firecracker products inside the city.
“Since firecracker vending were given license in LGUs nearby Baguio, we are conducting storage inspection, as vendors are not allowed to store nor hide their products here. We are monitoring 22 personalities here that are identified with firecracker vending”, Bangyod said.
In line with the BFP’s Oplan Paalala, Bangyod also reminds the public to be wary of their electrical wirings, including in the installation of the Christmas lights, as well as on lighting candles inside the house.
Another fire-safety people should consider is inside their kitchen or cooking areas, especially on the use of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas).
“Faulty electrical wirings, substandard lighting system including Christmas lights, lighted candles and accidents in the kitchen, particularly involving LPG are the usual causes of residential fire”, Bangyod added.
Aside from BFP, in the said media forum, the Department of Health also partnered with the city government of Baguio, the Baguio City Police Office and the Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PRO-Cor) and Baguio City general Hospital and Medical Centerl in promoting healthy, safe and peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration this yuletide season.
