LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Binmaley team suffered its first defeat in the recently playoffs of the ongoing Governor’s Cup – Inter-town Basketball Tournament quarterfinals, but remains on top in the league’s group A with 5 wins, 1 loss record.
Gaining momentum, Bugallon cagers trounced Binmaley team (108-97) to earn 2-2 win-loss standing tied with Mangaldan in cluster A, but both are still on the fourth spot.
Alaminos City is ranked second with 3-1 record, followed by Villasis with 3-2 after five games.
Trailing behind in cluster A are: Malasiqui (2-3), Asingan (1-3) and San Manuel, 0-4.
Meanwhile, Manaoag remains unbeaten in four games topping group B after edging archrival Urdaneta City (107-102) in game four of February 26 playoffs. Urdaneta City dropped to second spot in group ranking, 4-1.
Calasiao team ranked third with 4-2 record while in fourth spot are Sto. Tomas and Lingayen with identical 2 wins and 2 losses.
In fifth spot are Tayug and Bayambang who both posted 1 win and 3 losses. Meantime, Labrador remains winless in 5 outings.
Highlighting the February 25 playoffs was the heart-stopping clash between cluster B teams Urdaneta City and Calasiao which ended with Urdaneta winning the game by a point (92-91).
Other game results in February 25 quarterfinals include: Tayug (87) vs. Labrador (69); Sto. Tomas (106) vs. Bayambang (105); Alaminos City (96) and Mangaldan (84); Villasis (99) vs. Malasiqui (86); and Binmaley (88) vs. Asingan (78).
Aside from the unexpected defeat of Binmaley team to Bugallon cagers during the February 26 quarterfinal games, spectators saw the neck-and-neck battle between unbeaten Urdaneta City and Manaoag teams that ended with the odds favoring the pilgrimage town players (102,107).
Game results in other February 26 matches: Alaminos City (107) vs. Malasiqui (72); Villasis (won by default) vs. San Manuel; Calasiao (104) vs. Labrador (98); and Tayug (86) vs. Lingayen (89).
Remaining matches scheduled on March 12 and 18 will determine the final positioning of the competing teams in the quarterfinals en route to the cross-over semi-finals.
March 12 playoffs include: Bayambang vs. Urdaneta City (1PM), Lingayen vs. Manaoag (2:30PM) and Tayug vs. Sto. Tomas (4PM) to be held in Tayug; San Manuel vs. Alaminos City (1PM), Asingan vs. Malasiqui (2:30PM) and Mangaldan vs. Bugallon (4PM) to be held in Bugallon.
Clashing teams on March 13 at the NRSCC gym include: San Manuel vs. Bugallon (8AM), Villasis vs. Alaminos City (9:30AM), Mangaldan vs. Asingan (11AM), Tayug vs. Bayambang (12:30PM); Manaoag vs. Labrador (2PM); and Sto. Tomas and Lingayen (3:30PM).
