Board of Accountancy Paid Visits to Baguio Schools

oath-prc-customBaguio City – The Board of Accountancy (BOA) were in the city early last week to visit Baguio-based schools and conduct inspection and consultation and to administer the oathtaking of the May 2016 CPA successful examinees in discharge of their mandate given by the Accountancy Law.

Hon. Arlyn S. Villanueva, CPA and Member of the Board of Accountancy, paid a visit to Saint Louis University (SLU) and University of Baguio (UB) to inspect compliance to regarding compliance with the policies, standards and requirements in connection with its functions vested upon by RA 9298.

The BOA can ensure, in coordination with the Commission of Higher Education (CHED, that all higher educational institutions offering and instructing accountancy shall comply with the policies, standards and requirements of the course prescribed by the CHED in the areas of curriculum, faculty, library and facilities.

During her visit to SLU last June 27, 2016, Villanueva reiterated to the school the need for complying with the CHED requirements, emphasizing on the faculty need to comply with Masters Degrees and the earning of the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units.

An accounting teacher is required to earn at least 60 CPD units distributed to five thematic areas in order to be accredited by the Profession Regulation Commission (PRC) as an accountant in the academe. These thematic areas and their minimum requirements are (1) Enabling Laws, Rules and Regulations, 6 units; (2) Standards Applicable to Professional Practice, 24 units; (3) Ethical, Governance and Quality Principles, 10 units; (4) Environment of the Practice, 10 units; and (5) Development of the Person as a Professional, 10 units.

Villanueva also emphasized to them the possibility of becoming a provider as well as a resource speaker of the said seminars and trainings.

Meanwhile, in relation with the Board’s mandate to supervise the registration, licensure and practice of accountancy as well as the administering of oaths, Villanueva was the administering officer for the Baguio Oathtaking Ceremonies of the new registered Certified Public Accountants, who successfully hurdled the May, 2016 licensure examinations.

In her speech, Villanueva first give homage to the parents who were present. She honored them for the sacrifices they made in order for their children to achieve the accolade they were being recognized on that day. Then she commended the new CPAs for passing one of the most difficult examinations while reminding them of the need for the three year experience requirement and the need to be accredited before generally gaining the ability to practice their profession and the completion of the CPD units in order to maintain the accreditation.

Also gracing the event were Regional Director Teofilo Gaius M. Sison, Jr. and Juanita L. Domogen of the Professional Regulation Commission-CAR, past and present officers of the local PICPA headed by outgoing President Christopher Ismael and incoming President, Rhad Vic Estoque, and the different Deans and Program Chairs of the local schools offering accountancy.

A total of 50 new CPAs were inducted. Coming from SLU were Imee Florence Alfonso, Rick Ayungo, Brent Bagawi, April Joy Bagote, Shelouwayne Bakilan, Dean Stephen Calisin, Jenni-Louise Casingal, Jennifer Daluria, Nova Dupais, Shinder Rainbow Ferriol, Johnny Gaengan, Jr.,  Dennyse Jade Ilao, Rhema Joy Langcao, Marlyn Macasieb, Marlon Jayrald Carlo Ragil, Jean Marie Taguilingon, Jonalyn Walay, Chester Wayas and Carla Yee.

Representing the University of the Cordilleras were Claire Acop, JobelleMarie Baggao, Blesza Ericka Clarin, Myra Elizabeth Marciano, April Rose Orpilla, Aprilyn Smith, Mhadya Socorro Tayaban, Airish Waclin, and Kevin Wawey.

Coming from the Cordillera Career Development College were Rebilyn Balong, Ferlin Bantasan, Mary Grace Bitayan, Lorraine Diano, Bruno Galwat, and Cecile Olanio. UB was represented by Garry Aplaten, Almira Bunagan, Ian Mher Ignacio, Jomar Padduyao and Mitchelle Uyan.

The others were Oliver Joe Budayao of North Luzon Adventist College, Sison, Pangasinan; Dianne Cristobal of Northwestern University, Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Gian Troy Gapasin of Saint Louis College, San Fernando, La Union; Jaro Rosal of Kings College, La Trinidad, Benguet; and Cyril Balan Tudlong of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, Bontoc, Mt. Province.

Aldirn Cayad-an, Bobby Jose II, Charmaine Pelmino, and Carlos Vicuna were among the inductees who did not identify where they graduated from.
