KIBUNGAN, Benguet – Some sixty suspected marijuana cultivators in the remote barangays of Badeo and Tacadang here voluntarily surrendered to local and police officials and committed not to be involved in the production of the illegal hemp in the future.
Incumbent and outgoing local officials witnessed the signing of the appropriate documents by the suspected marijuana cultivators for them not to be involved in the cultivation of the illegal hemp in the remote areas of their respective barangays.
Some of them claimed they were compelled to plant marijuana because of the difficulty of life in the remote villages and the need for them to sustain the education needs of their children.
The surrender of the marijuana cultivators was a product of the on-going massive operation of law enforcers against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country upon the marching orders of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Local and police officials expressed confidence that more marijuana cultivators from other parts of the municipality will surrendered in the coming days to help rid the locality of the proliferation of marijuana considering that Benguet has been identified as the major source of high grade marijuana being circulated in the country.
